As senators prepared to vote this morning on a civil-unions bill, supporters of another contentious ruling — the landmark Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade — gathered at the state Capitol for a celebration.
Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaii collaborated on an observance of the 37th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision — and the 40th anniversary of the decriminalization of abortion in Hawaii.
“We’re so proud that our state led the nation in protecting a woman’s right to choose,” Katie Reardon, Vice President of Government and Public Affairs at Planned Parenthood of Hawaii, said in a statement.
“Roe’s anniversary is great day to celebrate freedom of choice and to rededicate ourselves to protecting reproductive freedom.”
