NFL: Dolphins hire Mike Nolan as defensive coordinator

Associated Press

MIAMI — Former San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Nolan has been hired as the Miami Dolphins' defensive coordinator.

The Dolphins hired Nolan on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the announcement of his departure as defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos.

Nolan replaces Paul Pasqualoni, who was fired after two seasons.

Nolan was the 49ers' head coach in 2005-08. He spent one year with Denver and has been a defensive coordinator with four other NFL teams: Baltimore (2002-04), the New York Jets (2000), Washington (1997-99) and the New York Giants (1993-96).

Earlier Tuesday, the Dolphins announced the hiring of former New York Giants assistant coach Bill Sheridan as inside linebackers coach.
