No permits or licences will be processed Wednesday

Advertiser Staff

Only written tests will be offered at the driver's license division in Líhu'e on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., to allow for the installation of a new identification system.

No permits or licenses will be processed during the installation. Normal operations are expected to resume the following day.

The new ID system, which uses biometrics, is being installed throughout the state to comply with a Department of Homeland Security mandate.

The system is designed to integrate fingerprint matching and facial recognition technologies to increase security and reduce identity theft.
