Big Island rescuers resume search for missing swimmer

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii County fire rescue personnel will resume a search today off Kailua, Kona, for a swimmer missing since Monday.

Daniel Wright, 30, of Kailua, Kona, was last seen in waters off an area known as “End of the World.” The site is popular among swimmers who leap into the ocean from a 20-foot cliff.
Divers yesterday found a pair of swim shorts in about 15 feet of water about 100 yards off shore.
The fire department also used a helicopter and foot searches along the coastline before suspending operations.
Wright was last seen in rough waters around 2:30 p.m. Monday. He was observed drifting out to sea and treading water. Shortly thereafter, witnesses lost sight of him.
