Hawaii gets $1.9 million in federal funds for broadband database

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs received $1.9 million in the latest round of funding from the federal government to develop an online database that can be used by consumers to identify the availability, speed, and location of broadband services throughout the state.

Hawaii was one of ten states to receive funding in the latest round of awards from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration.
So far, the NTIA has awarded grants totaling $97 million under the program. The agency said it expects to finish announcing awards late this year. The funding was made available through the American Recovery and Investment Act.
