David Wu has joined the state Department of Education as an assistant superintendent for the Office of Information Technology Services and the department’s chief information officer. Wu’s appointment was approved by the state Board of Education yesterday and is effective today.

“David Wu brings a wealth of experience to the Department of Education,” said Kathryn Matayoshi, acting superintendent of the Hawaii State Department of Education, in a statement. “His knowledge and expertise in a field that is changing so rapidly is vital to the department’s efforts to support our administrators and teachers and to prepare our students for the future.”

Prior to his DOE appointment, Wu was senior director of systems development at Hawaiian Airlines.
