Battleship Missouri coming out of drydock

Associated Press

HONOLULU — The battleship that hosted the official ceremony ending World War II is coming out of drydock at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard this week.

The former USS Missouri, now a museum known as the Battleship Missouri Memorial, has been undergoing maintenance and repairs since October.
Officials from Japan and the Allied Forces signed surrender documents ending the war on the Missouri’s deck in Tokyo Bay on Sept. 2, 1945.
When not in drydock, the ship is moored a few hundred yards from the USS Arizona, a battleship that sank during the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
The ship is due to return to its pier Thursday. The museum will reopen for visitors by the middle of this month.
