HPU hangs on, 74-70

Ray Murdock scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as visiting Hawai'i Pacific held off Chaminade, 74-70, in a Pacific West Conference game last night at McCabe Gym.

Mike Helton and Cliff Hodge each contributed 16 points for the Sea Warriors, who improved to 19-5 overall and 11-2 in the conference.

Dominique Cooks scored 19 points, Chandler Pearson added 16 and Steven Bennett had 15 for the Silverswords (7-14, 4-8).

BYU-HAWAI'I 75, HAWAI'I-HILO 69

Jet Chang scored 23 points and Lucas Alves added 18 points and 10 rebounds, helping the host Seasiders (16-5, 10-2 PacWest) turn back the Vulcans (13-10, 7-6) at Cannon Activities Center in Lā'ie.

PACWEST WOMEN

HAWAI'I PACIFIC 78, CHAMINADE 56

Genesis Lewis had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Britini Ronolo added 14 points and 11 boards, powering the visiting Sea Warriors (16-5, 12-1) past the Silverswords (1-19, 1-12) at McCabe Gym.

Courtney Buster had 14 points and Jazmin Awa-Williams 11 as HPU remained in first place in the conference.

BYU-HAWAI'I 71, HAWAI'I-HILO 70

Richelle Fenenbock scored 20 points and Zori Drew added 15, helping the host Seasiders (9-13, 5-7 PacWest) defeat the Vulcans (7-17, 4-9) at Cannon Activities Center in Lā'ie.

RANKED MEN

NO. 2 KENTUCKY 82, SOUTH CAROLINA 61

Patrick Patterson scored 23 points and the host Wildcats (27-1, 12-1 Southeastern Conference) avenged their only loss this season with a rout of the Gamecocks (14-13, 5-8).

The Wildcats need just one more victory or a Vanderbilt loss to clinch at least a share of their 44th SEC championship.

WAC MEN

BOISE STATE 72, LOUISIANA TECH 59

Paul Noonan scored 14 points and the visiting Broncos (13-15, 3-10 Western Athletic Conference) used a 16-0 run for a 55-45 lead and never looked back in beating the Bulldogs (21-7, 8-5).

NEVADA 83, SAN JOSE STATE 79

Brandon Fields scored 23 points, Luke Babbitt added 21, and the visiting Wolf Pack (17-10, 9-4) scored seven of the game's final eight points to beat the Spartans (13-14, 5-8), who got 25 points from Adrian Oliver.

RANKED WOMEN

NO. 2 STANFORD 62, ARIZONA STATE 43

Jayne Appel had 19 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the visiting Cardinal (26-1, 16-0) past the Sun Devils (16-10, 8-7) for its 17th straight win and sixth consecutive outright Pac-10 regular-season championship.
