UH softball freshmen earn honors

University of Hawai'i softball freshmen Kelly Majam and Kaia Parnaby have been named Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 15 to 21.
Majam, a center fielder from Pine Valley, Calif., hit a WAC-best .750 (12 for 16) with seven RBIs, a 1.313 slugging percentage and .810 on-base percentage at the Louisville-Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas.
The Rainbow Wahine went 4-1 in the tournament and are 7-3 overall.
Parnaby, a left-hander from Bilgola Plateau, New South Wales, Australia, went 3-0 —all complete games — at the Desert Classic. She allowed five earned runs over 17 innings and struck out 21 in victories over UNLV, San Diego and Cal State Fullerton.
Parnaby is 5-0 on the season,
Hawai'i continues its first road trip of the year with a game at Loyola Marymount today, before competing in the Cathedral City (Calif.) Classic, Thursday through Saturday.
