After one of the top scoring performances in University of Hawai'i basketball history, senior forward Roderick Flemings received the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week award yesterday.

Flemings scored 39 points in Hawai'i's 102-89 loss to Cal Poly on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

It was the most points scored by a Hawai'i player in the history of the Sheriff Center, which opened in 1994.

Only three other Rainbow Warriors have ever scored more — Tony Davis scored 45 in 1959, Trevor Ruffin had 42 in 1993, and Gavin Smith 40 in 1977.

Flemings shot 15 of 30 from the field, which was two short of the Hawai'i record for field-goal attempts in a game.

Earlier in the week, Flemings tallied 25 points and 11 rebounds in an 88-64 loss at New Mexico State.

For the week, Flemings averaged 32.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. It is his second WAC Player of the Week honor this season, and third of his career.

The 'Bows, who are on an eight-game losing streak, will play their final two home games of the season this week. They will host Utah State on Thursday, then Nevada on Saturday.

Thursday's game will be a battle of teams headed in opposite directions.

Hawai'i is 9-17 overall and tied for last place in the WAC at 2-10. Utah State is on a 12-game winning streak. The Aggies are 22-6 overall and in first place in the WAC at 11-2.

Saturday's game will be the final home appearance for five Hawai'i seniors — Flemings, Brandon Adams, Petras Balocka, Paul Campbell and Adhar Mayen.

The 'Bows will close the regular season with games at Boise State on March 4, and Idaho on March 6.

Hawai'i and Boise State are tied for last in the WAC. The last-place team will not qualify for the WAC Tournament at Reno, Nev.
