Damage to fiber-optic cable disrupts Internet, phones
Damage to a fiber-optic cable caused disruptions in service to some cell-phone and Internet users yesterday, an official said.
A Hawaiian Telcom spokesman said his company was told that AT&T reported that a fiber-optic cable was cut on O'ahu, affected mobile telephone and Internet service to Mainland and international destinations for some people served by AT&T.
Some Hawaiian Telcom customers were affected because the company uses AT&T as well as other carriers to route Internet traffic out of Hawai'i, the spokesman said.
AT&T officials could not be reached for comment.
