The University of Hawai'i bounced back from a loss to Georgia Tech earlier in the day to pound San Diego, 16-3, yesterday in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic at Las Vegas.

Amanda Tauali'i, Jessica Iwata and Melissa Gonzalez homered in support of freshman Kaia Parnaby, who spaced eight hits while striking out nine and walking none in a game that ended after 4 1/2 innings because of the eight-run mercy rule.

Gonzalez had a career-high five RBIs, and Kelly Majam batted 3 for 3 and scored four runs for the Rainbow Wahine (6-3).

Kristen Gensler hit a two-run homer for the Toreros (3-5).

In the first game, No. 10 Georgia Tech launched five home runs, including a three-run shot by Jessica Sinclair in the bottom of the sixth that ended the game by the eight-run mercy rule, 11-2.

Hope Rush of the Yellow Jackets (8-0) struck out four, walked none and gave up five hits, including a solo homer by Tauali'i in the second.
