100th vets’ Buck-A-Book sale March 14

World War II veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion and their families will hold a Buck-A-Book sale March 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 100th Clubhouse, 520 Kamoku St., to benefit Ala Wai Elementary School. Donations of books, DVDs, videotapes and CDs will be accepted at the clubhouse on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. through March 12. ‘KISS ME, KATE’ AT HAWAII THEATRE
The 'Iolani School performing arts department presents "Kiss Me, Kate" at Hawaii Theatre Feb. 25-27. The production features a cast of more than 50 'Iolani students and a live student orchestra. Curtain rises at 7 p.m. for each performance. General admission tickets are $10 (or $7 for opening night) at the theater box office, or by calling 'Iolani School at 943-2244.

‘PRINCESS FOR A PENNY’ FIGHTS CHILD ABUSE
Sacred Hearts Academy's Future Business Leaders of America raised $1,200 for Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii during their "Princess for a Penny" Fashion Show on Feb. 10. Students modeled 60 dresses, including three Academy students' original designs fashioned out of everyday items — bubble wrap, tissue paper, burlaps sacks, soda can tabs, coffee filters and shower scrubbies. Sales of dresses and fashion DVDs is ongoing.

HELP NEEDED FOR SATURDAY WHALE COUNT
Residents and visitors will assemble along Maui shores on Saturday to tally the number of humpback whales in view during the 2010 Great Whale Count. Sponsored and led by the Pacific Whale Foundation, the event takes a count and records the behaviors of humpback whales that visit the islands annually to mate or give birth. ‘UNCONFERENZ’ AT KAPIÇOLANI COLLEGE
Kapi'olani Community College will hold its third annual "Unconferenz" beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday for a full day of peer-driven exploration in technology. The event is a gathering with no set agenda and no keynote speakers. Topics are decided at the start of the day, and participants drive the conversation. Registration is $25, and includes lunch and a T-shirt. Attendance is limited to 100 people.
