VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Americans are in the curling win column at last, beating Russia 6-4 in a women’s match.
U.S. skip Debbie McCormick was feeling the pressure after an 0-3 start. The American men were off to an even worse start at 0-4.
The women won with a deuce in the final end Friday. McCormick nailed her last rock and bumped out a Russian stone. The Americans raised their brooms amid chants of “USA! USA!”
The U.S. took a lead in the third with a point and added a deuce in the fifth. But the Americans gave up two points in the seventh and another in the ninth that tied it at 4 entering the final end.
The Russians switched skips for this match, not unusual for this foursome.
