Kahuku routs No. 4 Kamehameha-Hawaii, 67-48

The wave of Red Raiders kept coming every couple of minutes, pressing on defense and pushing on offense.

"We sub 5-on-5 because we push, get the team tired, once we push them, the team's tired and the second team comes in and then we just keep running and running," said Kahuku's Jessica Falemalu.

Falemalu scored 16 points to lead the Red Raiders to a 67-48 win over fourth-seeded Kamehameha-Hawai'i last night in a quarterfinal game of the Hawaiian Airlines/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Division II Girls Basketball State Championships at Kalani High School.

Kahuku (14-3) faces defending champion and top-seeded Moloka'i (11-0) in today's 7 p.m. semifinal at Kalani.

"We still got a lot of unfinished business and we got to take it one day at a time," said Joshlyn Noga, who had 14 points for Kahuku, which also got 14 points and 10 rebounds from Leina Faleolo.

Kahuku's press dictated the tempo against Kamehameha-Hawai'i (9-6), and the constant substitution opened up the Red Raiders' transition game. No Red Raider played more than 20 minutes in the 32-minute game.

A 10-2 run midway through the second quarter opened up a tight game and helped Kahuku take a 33-21 lead at halftime.

The Warriors got within nine early in the third quarter before the Red Raiders pulled away.

Katelynne Paleka-Kennedy had 20 points and 21 rebounds for the Warriors, who play Kaiser in a consolation game today. Chelsea Poe had nine points and Kim Palea had nine points and 11 rebounds.
