UH athletic department deficit rises to record $8 million

The University of Hawaii athletic department had a record accumulated net deficit of $8,051,123 at the end of the last fiscal year, June 30, 2009, according to an auditors' report made public today.
The deficit for the year was $2.6 million, a Board of Regents committee on university audits was told.
UH, which operates 19 teams, has been running an accumulated net deficit since 2002.
The full board is scheduled to review the auditor's report tomorrow.
