A 24-year-old Kailua man suffered critical injuries Monday morning when he lost control of his motorcycle on Kalanianaole Highway just east of the entrance to Hanauma Bay.

The accident happened about 6 a.m. A portion of the highway was closed until about 8:20 while police investigated.
Police said the man was headed east when he failed to negotiate a turn and sideswiped a guardrail. The man, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected.
Police said they do not know at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash but believe that speed might have been a factor.
