Jellyfish influx closes Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay will be be closed today, for a second day in a row, because of an influx of box jellyfish.

Bryan Cheplic of the city's Emergency Services Department said lifeguards found more than 100 jellyfish on the beach this morning.
A smaller number of jellyfish were found at Yokohama Bay, Waikiki Beach and Ala Moana Beach Park and warning signs have been posted.
Hanauma Bay was closed yesterday after more than 40 jellyfish were found on the beach and numerous others spotted just off shore. More than 400 jellyfish were found at Yokohama Bay yesterday.
Box jellyfish also were washing up today on several Kauai beaches, a county news release said.
Kauai ocean safety officials said the creatures were found at Poipu, Salt Pond and Kekaha. Beachgoers are being urged to check with lifeguards before entering the water.
