Signing day: Dozens of local athletes make commitment

Dozens of Hawaii high school athletes signed their college letters of intent this morning in a ceremony sponsored by the Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

More than 60 Hawaii high school student-athletes made their commitments binding today during a National Letter of Intent signing day gathering at the Sheraton Waikiki.

Today is the first day student-athletes in various sports, such as football, can sign a National Letter of Intent that binds him to a college. Signing day, especially for football prospects, has taken on such wide-ranging interest that ESPNU and ESPN2 will hold special telecasts. Last year, ESPN came to Hawaii to telecast the signing of Punahou's Manti Te'o, who chose Notre Dame over USC.

Today's event in Waikiki was hosted was by the Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance and live-streamed by The Honolulu Advertiser.

ESPNU and ESPN2 also held will be hold live telecasts on Mainland signings

Special guests will include Hawai'i Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona and agent and former NFL player Leo Goeas.
