WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Robbie Hummel needed just three minutes to squash Penn State's upset hopes.

Hummel scored nine of his 23 points during a 13-0 run right after the halftime break to help No. 10 Purdue beat Penn State, 66-46, yesterday for its fourth straight win.

The Boilermakers led 41-26 after Hummel's shots.

"Rob made some shots there in that stretch, but he also made some good plays," Purdue coach Matt Painter said. "Even when they made some baskets to kind of counterpunch us, he'd step up and make another one or make another play."

Hummel scored 15 points in the second half. He said the Boilermakers were more focused after the break.

"I thought we played a lot harder, played more together, and played a very good half of basketball," he said. "There were some holes that we were able to find in the zone and guys did a good job of getting the ball in a place where I could shoot and make some shots. Guys were able to find me in places I was able to score."

Hummel made four 3-pointers and had six rebounds. JaJuan Johnson scored 13 points and E'Twaun Moore added 12 for the Boilermakers (18-3, 6-3 Big Ten).

Talor Battle scored 13 points, David Jackson 11 and Bill Edwards had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Penn State (8-13, 0-9).

It was the ninth straight loss for the Nittany Lions.

No. 14 Tennessee 61, Florida 60: Scotty Hopson came out of a timeout and quickly hit a long jump shot with 21 seconds left to give the host Volunteers (16-4, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) a win over the Gators (15-6, 4-3).

The basket gave the Volunteers their sixth straight win over their East Division rival and fifth straight victory in Knoxville. It also kept Tennessee from dropping a third game in a row.

South Florida 70, No. 17 Pittsburgh 61: Dominique Jones scored 37 points and the host Bulls (14-7, 4-5) extended their school-best Big East winning streak to three games with a victory over the Panthers (16-5, 6-3).

Jones made 10 of 20 shots from the field and 14 of 17 free throws. USF nearly squandered a 14-point lead down the stretch, but held on by making 11 of 14 free throws in the final three minutes.

Arkansas 80, No. 18 Mississippi 73: Mike Washington had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Marshawn Powell added 19 and two key blocks in the final 1 1/2 minutes to rally the Razorbacks (10-11, 3-3) to their second straight come-from-behind win, upsetting the host Rebels (16-5, 4-3).

The Razorbacks earned back-to-back wins over Southeastern Conference Western Division leaders, erasing an eight-point deficit to beat the Rebels just days after overcoming a 12-point deficit against Mississippi State.

No. 20 Ohio St. 85, Minnesota 63: William Buford scored a career-high 26 points, and Evan Turner and Jon Diebler each had 19 to lead the host Buckeyes (16-6, 6-3 Big Ten) past the Golden Gophers (13-8, 4-5) for their fifth win in six games.

The Buckeyes shot 63 percent against Minnesota, which came in leading the conference by limiting opponents to just 38.6 percent.

WOMEN

Indiana 67, No. 4 Ohio State 62: Jori Davis scored 19 points and Danilsa Andujar added the go-ahead basket with 3:45 left to help the host Hoosiers (12-10, 5-6 Big Ten) beat the Buckeyes (21-3, 9-2).

Hope Elam added 15 points, including a pair of free throws with 1.8 seconds left, as Indiana won for just the second time in its last 13 meetings with the Buckeyes.

No. 5 Tennessee 60, South Carolina 55: Kamiko Williams scored a career-high 17 points to lead the Lady Vols (19-1, 7-1 SEC) over the host Gamecocks (11-10, 4-5).

Tennessee fell behind 13-0 and never led until 7:53 was left in the game, but finished on an 8-1 run to beat the Gamecocks for the 38th straight time.

No. 15 Oklahoma State 67, No. 8 Texas A&M 63: Andrea Riley shook off early foul trouble to score 31 points and rally the visiting Cowgirls (18-3, 6-1 Big 12), who trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half against the Aggies (15-4, 3-3).

Oklahoma State trailed by three before Riley's 3-pointer tied it 61-all. She got a steal on the ensuing possession and Precious Robinson gave Oklahoma State its first lead with a layup with 1:03 left.

Auburn 67, No. 9 Georgia 53: Alli Smalley scored 22 points as the host Tigers (12-10, 3-6 SEC) ended a four-game skid and handed the Lady Bulldogs (18-4, 5-4) their third consecutive defeat.

KeKe Carrier added 15 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots for the Tigers, who outrebounded the Lady Bulldogs 39-27, including 17 offensive boards.

No. 19 Texas 61, No. 14 Baylor 50: Earnesia Williams scored 13 points and the host Longhorns (14-6, 3-3 Big 12) built a 21-point lead before hanging on against the Bears (15-5, 2-4).

Brittainey Raven added 12 points and Ashleigh Fontenette 11 for Texas.

No. 18 LSU 78, Alabama 41: Allison Hightower made a career-high six 3-pointers and scored 29 points to lead the Tigers (15-5, 4-4 SEC) to their 11th straight win over the host Crimson Tide (9-13, 1-8).

LaSondra Barrett added 13 points and 11 rebounds for LSU, which scored the first 11 points, led 18-5 at the 13:13 mark and never looked back.

Wake Forest 64, No. 21 Virginia 57: Sandra Garcia scored 21 points and made three clutch free throws late for the host Demon Deacons (12-9, 4-3 ACC), who improved to 3-60 against the Cavaliers (15-6, 4-3).

Secily Ray added 14 points for Wake Forest.

Kansas State 73, No. 22 Iowa State 67: Ashley Sweat scored 31 points, Brittany Chambers added 14 and the host Wildcats (11-9, 3-3 Big 12) came off an eight-day break to pull off the upset over the Cyclones (16-4, 4-3).

Taelor Karr finished with 12 points for the Wildcats, who pushed their lead to nine midway through the second half and stayed on top for good.

Michigan 66, No. 23 Penn State 62: Veronica Hicks and Carmen Reynolds each scored 18 points to help the host Wolverines (13-8, 5-6) win their third straight Big Ten game by beating the Lady Lions (15-6, 7-4).

Tyra Grant had 19 points for the Lady Lions, who dropped their second straight and most likely will fall out of the Top 25 a week after entering it.

No. 25 Georgia Tech 61, Virginia Tech 47: Brigitte Ardossi scored 15 points to lead a balanced offense and the host Yellow Jackets (18-5, 4-3 ACC) improved to 11-0 at home this season by beating the Hokies (12-9, 2-5).

Alex Montgomery, Sasha Goodlett and Deja Foster each scored 11 points for the Yellow Jackets.
