NFL: Warren getting chance to prove himself with Jets

By DENNIS WASZAK Jr.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Donovan Warren was once considered a possible first-round draft pick, a cornerback with good cover skills and game-changing abilities.

A subpar performance at the NFL combine because of a sprained right ankle changed everything for the former Michigan star. Warren went undrafted and is now getting a chance from the New York Jets to prove everyone wrong.

Warren said Friday that he was shocked he wasn't drafted, but says he's excited at potentially being a part of Rex Ryan's defense — whether it's as a cornerback or safety, or both.

Former NFL safety Mark Carrier, Warren's godfather and the Jets' defensive line coach, says the defensive back has handled the recent adversity well.
