Suspect in kidnapping case faces court hearing today

Advertiser Staff

A 22-year-old man is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing today on a charge that he tried to kidnap a 5-year-old girl Sunday in Waipahu.

Anthony J. Davis is charged with one count of kidnapping and remains in custody unable to post $50,000 bail. He made his initial court appearance yesterday.

Davis is charged with grabbing a girl at Waipahu District Park Sunday and attempting to walk away with her. Police said the girl's brothers, ages 10 and 12, and her 15-year-old sister managed to pull the girl away from the man.

A lifeguard at the district park pool and other bystanders detained the man until police arrived. Police said the man is not an acquaintance of the girl or her family.
