Bail doubles for alleged child abductor in Waipahu

Advertiser Staff

Bail was increased from $50,000 to $100,000 for a 22-year-old man indicted Thursday on charges of trying to kidnap a little girl Sunday in Waipahu.

Anthony J. Davis allegedly attempted to abduct a 5-year-old when she was walking with her brothers, ages 10 and 12, and sister, 15, near the swimming pool at Waipahu District Park, according to police and prosecutor reports.

Davis, who has no criminal record, "grabbed her by the arm and began pulling her toward the community center" Deputy Prosecutor Victoria Kapp said in court.

Her brother and sister tried to intervene as the 5-year-old tried to get away from him," Kapp said.

"The lifeguard from the nearby pool was able to see what was happening and confronted the suspect when the suspect had fled," said Kapp.

Police said Davis was not known to the girl or her siblings.

At Kapp's request, Circuit Judge Steven Alm doubled Davis' $50,000 bail.
