Dr. John Charles Behnke Jr., 78, of Haiku, Maui, died April 23, 2010. Born in Newark, N.J. Retired physician. Instrumental in establishing full-time medical staffing at the Maui Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in the early 1970's and was one of the original full-time physicians there. He later practiced at the Kaiser Wailuku's Urgent Care Clinic. Survived by sister, Bonnie Behnke Crouch; children, John, Mary Burns, Elizabeth, Thomas and Rachel Behnke Darman; five grandchildren.
