A 69-year-old Waipahu man was critically injured Tuesday night when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle on Fort Weaver Road.

The accident was reported at 7:41 p.m. near Hawaii Medical Center West.

Police said the man was not in a crosswalk and stepped into the path of the SUV, which was driven by a 49-year-old Ewa Beach man.

Police said the man suffered injuries to his head and lower extremities and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said they have not determined if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

They said speed, drugs and alcohol were not factors in the driver's actions. The driver was not injured.
