Hawaii to get $1M for traffic-safety programs
Hawaii will get more than $1 million to pay for island-wide traffic-safety programs that encourage seat belt use and safe and sober driving, Sens. Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka announced today.
The $1,032,254 comes from a grant from the National Highway Safety Administration.
The grant provisions allow each county to identify their most pressing traffic safety issue and address it with the help of federal money.
"Each year we watch as senseless, preventable injuries and deaths occur on Hawaii's roads," Inouye said in a statement. "These funds will help the counties focus their traffic safety efforts where the need exists."
"This grant will provide police with resources to increase traffic safety in Hawaii," Akaka said in a statement.
