Hawaii County police said today that a tip to CrimeStoppers led to the arrest of a South Kona man wanted in connection with a series of sometimes violent crimes.
Daniel "Dukie" Abraham, 28, was arrested yesterday and is being held at the Kona cellbock while police consider possible kidnapping, terroristic threatening, assault, robbery and car-theft charges.
Detectives are investigating six incidents in which Abraham is a suspect:
• On Sept. 26, 2009, a 25-year-old Hilo man reported that a man punched and kicked him and then stole his car.
• On Feb. 16, a 19-year-old Kailua, Kona, man reported that a man used a machete to sever a finger from his left hand and cut the bottom of his right foot.
• On Feb. 16, a 20-year-old Captain Cook woman reported that a man stole her car from her home.
• On Feb. 18, a 41-year-old Honaunau man reported that his car was stolen from his home.
• On Feb. 27, a 28-year-old Captain Cook woman reported that a man forced her into a car at gunpoint, took her to a home in Eden Rock, held her there against her will and punched her about the face and body.
• On April 16, a 43-year-old Honaunau woman reported that a man stole her sport utility vehicle from a scenic lookout point in South Kona.
After receiving an anonymous tip that the stolen SUV had been seen in the Captain Cook area, police arrested Abraham and another man at 1:15 p.m. yesterday in a parking lot in Captain Cook, where the stolen SUV was parked.
The other man, 24-year-old Kainoa Jake Kahoalii of South Kona, was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and promoting a dangerous drug.
He was also arrested and charged on a warrant for criminal contempt of court. His bail for the contempt charge is $50,000.
