Brigham Young-Hawai'i continued its dominance of women's tennis in the Pacific West Conference with another title last week.

The third-ranked Seasi-ders won their 28th consecutive match in Saturday's 5-1 win over No. 11 Hawai'i Pacific in the championship final at the Paseo Racquet Club in Glendale, Ariz.

Junior Elwen Li, the nation's top-ranked player, and Yuan Jia won, 8-2, at the top doubles spot to lead a BYUH sweep of the doubles matches. Shawni Porter and Ayako Ikeda won, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles and Jenny Chin teamed with Salina Aranda to pick up an 8-5 win at third doubles.

Li, who went 6-0 in three days and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, won 6-0 and 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Aranda won 6-1 and 6-3 at No. 6 singles to clinch the win for the Seasiders.

Tinka Minhonva won, 6-0, 6-1, at fourth singles to give HPU its only win of the match.

Chaminade beat Dixie State, 5-2, to claim third, its highest finish in history at the PacWest Tournament. Silverswords senior Tiffany De Vincent won, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 singles and teamed with Yuko Kondo to win, 8-2, at first doubles. De Vincent was the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, voted on by conference coaches and given out each year at the PacWest Championships.

Academy of Art sophomore Maria Tenorio lifted her team to a 5-4 win over Grand Canyon in the fifth-place match with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.

Hawai'i-Hilo shut out Dominican, 5-0, to capture seventh place. The Vulcans swept all three doubles matches and won at fifth and sixth singles.

BYUH will likely be named the host site of the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament, which begins May 6.

SOFTBALL

HPU NO. 1 IN WEST

Four of the PacWest Conference's nine softball teams appeared in the most recent NCAA Division II West Regional Rankings.

HPU (28-3), which was ranked second nationally last week, remains the No. 1 team in the region. Grand Canyon (32-9) moved up one spot to second while Hawai'i-Hilo (22-11) was fifth and Dixie State (23-11) seventh. The Red Storm, the preseason favorite to win the PacWest, is the reigning West Region champion.

The top eight teams in each region are selected to the NCAA II National Championship Tournament.
