It didn't rain on Hawai'i's parade yesterday, it snowed.

On a day in which the UH softball team moved into the national rankings, its game against Utah State was canceled after six inches of snow fell overnight in Logan, Utah.

The Rainbow Wahine (28-11 overall, 6-0 Western Athletic Conference) and Aggies (14-15, 3-2) will try again today with a doubleheader, weather permitting.

Meanwhile, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association/USA Today Division I Top 25 was released with the Rainbow Wahine at No. 25.

After receiving votes in five of eight previous polls this season, the 'Bows broke through as the only new team in this week's Top 25.

Hawai'i last appeared in the NFCA poll in 2008, when it spent 10 of 15 weeks in the Top 25. The Rainbow Wahine's last NFCA ranking was No. 24 in Week 11 of that year.

SURFING

HAWAI'I SURFERS OUSTED IN AUSTRALIA

Four Hawai'i surfers were eliminated from the Rip Curl Pro men's surfing contest yesterday at Australia.

The third and fourth rounds of the contest were completed in 1- to 3-foot waves at Winkipop, Victoria, Australia.

Andy Irons, Fred Patacchia Jr. and Roy Powers advanced through the third round in the morning, but all three then lost in the fourth round in the afternoon.

Dusty Payne of Maui lost in the third round. He had an early lead against nine-time former world champion Kelly Slater of Florida, but ultimately lost by a score of 15.10-13.84.

The contest requires one more day of competition, but no Hawai'i surfers will be competing on the final day.

The contest is the second stop on the 2010 ASP World Tour.

TENNIS

WAC HONORS FOR UH'S LAJOLA

University of Hawai'i junior Dennis Lajola has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

Lajola went 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles for the Rainbow Warriors (8-6, 2-0) in conference matches against Fresno State and Idaho last week.

Lajola played a key part in a win over No. 28 Fresno State, defeating Mirko Zapletal in three sets at No. 1 singles and teaming with Daniel Llarenas to beat Zapletal and Taylor Leiby at No. 2 doubles.

Lajola also beat Adrian Simon, 6-1, 6-3, of No. 72 Idaho, and the 'Bows held a commanding lead before play was halted due to rain.

Lajola has won all three of his WAC singles matches this season.
