UH president names 8 to technology advisory council

University of Hawai'i president M.R.C. Greenwood has chosen eight people to serve on a new advisory council on technology, the university said yesterday.

Greenwood announced plans in February to create a President's Advisory Council on Innovation and Technology Advancement.

"This group will provide counsel and recommendations that will help us set the course for our journey from where we are to where we want to be as leaders in the area of research, innovation and technology," Greenwood said.

Council members are:

• Carl Bonham, executive director of the UH Economic Research Organization and associate economics professor at, UH-Mānoa.

• Daniel Goldin, chairman, president and CEO of The Intellisis Corp.

• Katharine Ku, director of the Office of Technology Licensing at Stanford University.

• Jim Lally, engineer and former general manager of Intel and a member of the UH board of trustees.

• Brian Taylor, dean of UH-Mānoa's School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology.

• Barry Weinman, venture capitalist and philanthropist, Barry and Virginia Weinman Foundation, and chairman, UH board of trustees.

• Mary Walshok, associate vice chancellor of public programs and dean of extended studies at the University of California at San Diego.

• Hank C.K. Wuh, founder and CEO of Cellular Bioengineering Inc.
