Advertiser Staff

Local health advocates are presenting a pair of events this month to raise awareness of child obesity in Hawai'i.

On April 15, The Hawai'i Initiative for Childhood Obesity Research and Education is sponsoring "Timely Topics in Pediatrics: Optimizing Child Health for the Future," an all-day conference for health-care providers and others at the Kahala Hotel. The event is co-sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics Hawai'i Chapter and the Queen's Medical Center.

Information is available at www.haawaiiaap.org.

On April 17, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the YMCA will hold its second-annual Healthy Kids Day at the Bishop Museum. The event will include games, activities, entertainment, prizes and healthy food.

Also, the Hawai'i Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition is compiling a community resource directory of physical activity and nutrition programs in the state. Further information is available at www.npachawaii.org.
