A 20-year-old Marine based out of Hawai'i was killed in southern Afghanistan, the Pentagon said today.

Lance Cpl. Curtis M. Swenson, of Rochester, Minn., died Friday while supporting combat operations in Helmand province.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, out of Kane'ohe Bay.
