Honolulu Theatre for Youth's "Just So Stories," adapted from the Rudyard Kipling classic by HTY artistic director Eric Johnson and the HTY ensemble, caps off the season with shows April 9 through May 8 at Tenney Theatre. The play is recommended for children ages 4 and older.

How did the camel get his hump? How did the elephant get her trunk? In his classic book of stories published more than a hundred years ago, Kipling asks how things became the way they are and answers with delightful stories filled with wit, adventure, humor and an occasional splash of magic.

Specifically created for the HTY acting ensemble, the production is designed to engage the mind and tickle the funny bone as Kipling's unforgettable characters transform into the animals we know today. The production features live African percussion music, fantastical masks and puppets.

The cast are Maile Holck, Junior Tesoro, Q, Moses Goods and Sango. Eric Johnson directs. Set and lighting design is by H. Bart McGeehon; costumer is Sandra Payne; music director and composer is Sango; and mask, props and puppet design are by H. Bart McGeehon and Sandra Payne.

"Just So Stories" show times are 7:30 p.m. April 9 and 4:30 p.m. April 10, 17, 24, May 1, and 8. There will be no show on April 27. American Sign Language-interpreted performance will be May 8. All performances will be at Tenney Theatre at The Cathedral Church of St. Andrew in Honolulu.

Tickets are $8 for children and $16 for adults; college students with ID and seniors age 60 and over are admitted for $8; active duty military receive one free child admission with the purchase of each regularly priced adult ticket. (Tickets are $10/$20 for the Friday, April 9 opening night performance, which includes a post-show reception.) Call the HTY box office at 839-9885.
