HPU outlasts BYUH in PacWest volleyball

Natasha Bell had 18 kills as Hawai'i Pacific outlasted Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 16-25, 25-18, 15-25, 25-21, 18-16, last night in a Pacific West Conference volleyball match at St. Andrew's Priory gym.
Mariana Souza added 11 kills and 12 digs, and Tricia Yoshimura had 23 digs for the Sea Warriors (5-6, 2-0). Ane Vea had 23 kills and Losaline Faka'osi added nine kills and 19 digs for the Seasiders (4-8, 1-2).

Logan Montenegro scored a little more than a minute into the game, propelling Hawai'i-Hilo to a 2-0 victory over visiting Brigham Young-Hawai'i in Pacific West Conference men's soccer at Kea'au High School.
Montenegro scored an unassisted goal at 1:07, Eduardo Gutierrez scored on a penalty kick at 59:58 and Ivan Mercado made seven saves for the Vulcans, who are 3-5 overall and 2-0 in the PacWest.
Viktor Bezhani took four shots, including three on goal, for the Seasiders (2-4, 1-2).

ISLE SURFERS OUSTED
Hawai'i surfers Dustin Barca, Fred Patacchia Jr. and Roy Powers were eliminated in the third round of the Quiksilver Pro France men's contest yesterday.
The third round was run in 1- to 3-foot waves at Les Bourdaines, France.
Patacchia lost his heat to Australia's Ben Dunn in the closing seconds. Both caught a wave just before the final horn sounded. Patacchia's ride received a score of 6.8; Dunn scored a 7.4.
Powers lost to California's Dane Reynolds, 18.27-11.0. Barca lost to California's Taylor Knox, 13.17-12.7.
