Although its big game is next week against Saint Louis, No. 4 Kamehameha had no trouble focusing on the task last night, beating Damien, 36-0, in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu interdivisional game at Kunuiakea Stadium.

The Division I Warriors (5-1 overall, 2-1 ILH) didn't need a reminder of overlooking the Division II Monarchs (1-5, 1-3). Kamehameha's only loss was to Division II 'Iolani.

"We lost to 'Iolani," Kamehameha coach David Stant said. "Nobody's unbeatable. We have to stay focused every game."

The game went into the running clock mode — the league's mercy rule when the margin reaches at least 35 points in the second half — after backup running back Jason Muraoka scored on a four-yard touchdown run with four minutes, 20 seconds left in the third quarter.

Stant was pleased that he was able to use the backups to start the second with a 22-0 lead, as he hoped to leave this game injury-free.

Starting running back Ryan Ho rushed for a game-leading 132 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries in just the first half. He and quarterback T.C. Campbell sat in the second half, but the game was still in good hands with the reserves. Muraoka had 94 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.

"We came out hard," Ho said. "We didn't take Damien lightly."

He was happy for Muraoka.

"Jason ran great," Ho said. "We all practice together and teach other new stuff."

The Monarchs were held to just 14 yards on offense. Quarterback Makana Ka'anoi was sacked four times.

Despite dominating the game, Stant said his team made mistakes that it can't get away with next week against the Crusaders.

"We didn't execute everything that we're supposed to do during the game," Stant said. "Not saying it's Damien, but some of the things we did were wrong. Just the little details. We don't take care of that, we're not going to beat Saint Louis."
