University of Washington senior libero Tamari Miyashiro, a 2005 Kalani High graduate from Kane'ohe, had 33 digs in a pair of sweeps last weekend to help the Huskies capture the University of Texas-San Antonio Classic tournament title.
Miyashiro came up with 18 digs against UT-San Antonio Friday and had 15 in Saturday's win over Middle Tennessee State — both marks were game-highs.
As a sophomore in 2007, Miyashiro was named National Defensive Player of the Year by ASICS and Volleyball Magazine. She earned the same honor from UnderArmour and Volleyball Magazine following her junior season. She is a two-time AVCA All-American and three-time All-Pac-10 selection.
Washington reached the Elite Eight of last year's NCAA Tournament before falling in five sets to Nebraska in the final of the Seattle Regional.
The Huskies (10-0) remained at No. 3 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Top 25 poll. Washington opens Pac-10 Conference play at Oregon Friday and at Oregon State Sunday.
