All Angels Animal Blessing at St. Michael's, Lihue, returns Oct. 4

Advertiser staff

The fourth annual All Angels Animal Blessing at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lihue, Kauai, returns at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.
The blessing is held on the Sunday closest to St. Francis Day, in recognition of St. Francis’ love and appreciation for animals.
The Animal Blessing Service includes special prayers for animals, their stewards, and animal care-givers, the hymn “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” a performance by the All Angels Children’s Choir under the direction of Hank Curtis, and an opportunity for each animal to come to the front of the altar to receive a personal blessing prayer from Father William Miller.
The blessing service will last only 30 minutes and will be followed by an outdoor reception from 5 to 6 p.m., with hot dogs, music from John Gilleran, and a petting zoo for children. All are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets for lawn seating.
Animals must be on leash or in a carrier. The blessing is free and open to the public. St. Michael’s is located at the corner of Umi and Hardy Streets, next to the Lihue Public Library and across from Wilcox School.
