INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA has picked James Isch to be interim president, a temporary replacement for the late Myles Brand.

Isch joined the national staff in 1998 and has served as the governing body's vice president for administration and chief financial officer. Among his responsibilities are accounting and budgetary matters for the organization.

NCAA executive committee chairman Michael Adams made the announcement Tuesday morning. Brand died last Wednesday of pancreatic cancer. He was 67.

Since then, the governing body had been run by the president's cabinet.

Adams gave no timetable for finding a full-time replacement. Adams, University of Hartford president Walter Harrison and NCAA executive Bernard Franklin are believed to be among the candidates under consideration.
