NFL: Jaguars release Wyche, promote Navarre
Associated Press
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars have released defensive end James Wyche and elevated rookie defensive end Jeremy Navarre from the practice squad.
The Jags also signed defensive end Zach Potter to the practice squad.
Thursday's moves are the latest as the Jags try to replace defensive end Reggie Hayward, who broke his left leg in the season opener.
Wyche, a seventh-round draft pick in 2006, had been a candidate to replace Hayward. Now, the Jaguars have Quentin Groves, rookie Julius Williams and Navarre as the only ends to play opposite Derrick Harvey. Jacksonville could switch to more 3-4 schemes.
Navarre is an undrafted rookie from Maryland. Potter, an undrafted rookie from Nebraska, was waived by the New York Jets in final cuts.
