New FLUX Hawaii magazine to target 21 to 45 year olds
FLUX Hawaii, a new lifestyle magazine scheduled to launch in January 2010, will kick off asking the question "Where is Hawai'i transitioning to?"
Co-founders Lisa Yamada and Cody Matsukawa, both jobless and both creative, came up with the idea when they concluded that there wasn't a local magazine that appealed to their demographic. They brought Ara Laylo on board, former production manager for the now-defunct SMART magazine.
As an indicator of their out-of-the-box thinking, the founders are kicking off the launch by placing the responsibility for choosing the cover art in the hands of prospective readers. They asked five local artists to produce the proposed artwork focused on the "transitioning" question: Eugene "Eukarezt" Kristofher, Sonny Ganaden, Haj Gollestani, Landon Osamu and Yumi Vong. Art will be displayed at Fresh Cafe, 831 Queen St., and viewers can vote online at fluxhawaii.com
