Sex act in school bathroom alleged
Police are investigating a report that a 15-year-old girl performed a sexual act on a 17-year-old boy at Kaimuki High School.
The incident allegedly took place in a restroom about 3 p.m. Thursday.
Police arrested the boy on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault. He was later released pending further investigation.
Kaimuki principal Penelope Tom said the school has launched its own investigation under the state Department of Education's Chapter 19 Administrative Rules, the policy governing student conduct and discipline. Tom said the school immediately contacted police and the parents of the students involved.
GUARD ARRESTED IN OCCC SEX ASSAULT
A 42-year-old corrections officer was arrested yesterday in connection with a sexual assault on a transgender inmate at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center last month.
Ryan Malasig turned himself in at the main police station on South Beretania Street shortly after 11 a.m. yesterday. He was booked on one count of second-degree sexual assault and released without charges pending further investigation.
On Aug. 23, a 31-year-old male inmate told prison officials that he was sexually assaulted in a secluded area of the kitchen at OCCC. The incident was reported to police, but an arrest was not made until yesterday.
Myles Breiner, the inmate's attorney, said his client has the appearance of a woman, but has not undergone surgery to become a woman.
KOHALA SCHOOL CLOSING CONSIDERED
A Big Island task force is studying whether Kohala Middle School should be closed to save money.
If so, its 198 students would be relocated to Kohala High and Elementary. Critics argue that the campus at the elementary and high school is already crowded.
