Michelle Wie isn't old enough to play — neither are her parents — but Hawai'i will have another women's professional tour event here this year.
The Legends Tour, which is the LPGA's mini-version of the men's Champions Tour, will be at Kapolei Golf Course next month for the Kinoshita Pearl Classic World Women's Senior Championship. The purse is $350,000, with the winner collecting $50,000.
Format is a one-day pro-am Oct. 23 and a two-day stroke-play tournament Oct. 24 and 25.
The Legends Tour has been around since 2000. It is open to players 45 and older. Top money winners last year were Cindy Figg-Currier and Sherri Turner, with $100,000. University of Hawai'i alum Cindy Rarick tied for fifth with Jan Stephenson, Nancy Lopez, Val Skinner, Rosie Jones and Beth Daniel. Hawai'i's Lenore (Muraoka) Rittenhouse, Jeannette (Kerr) Kohlhaas and Susie Berning have also been active.
The tour has more than 100 members, including Hall of Famers Lopez, Daniel, Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley, JoAnne Carner, Sandra Haynie, Carol Mann, Patty Sheehan and Kathy Whitworth.
Legends will play its first major this November in Florida. The tour's CEO is former player Jane Blalock. Stephenson leads the tour in career winnings.
