Firefighters keep an eye on blaze's smoldering remains
The Honolulu Fire Department sent ground crews yesterday to extinguish the smoldering remains of a brushfire in Waiawa that closed the northbound H-2 Freeway on Saturday.
Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the fire was considered contained, but firefighters expect that hot spots may continue to smolder and require attention.
The fire began on Saturday afternoon and closed northbound lanes of the freeway for five hours.
