No. 7 Farrington dominated both sides of the line, doing all its damage in the first half, to knock off No. 8 Castle, 19-8, last night in O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red East football at Roosevelt's Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium.

Running back Harry Tuimaseve rushed for 135 yards and one touchdown, while the defense registered eight sacks to keep the Governors (4-0 overall, 2-0 East) undefeated.

The Knights (3-1, 1-1) punted nine times in 14 series. They turned the ball over on a fumble and two interceptions. They didn't score until their second-to-last series with 19 seconds left and ran out of time after recovering the ensuing onside kick after two plays from scrimmage.

"Complete domination in the trenches," Castle coach Nelson Maeda said to reporters on the sidelines after the Knights finally scored in the waning seconds.

Castle's defense could not handle Farrington's straight dives during the Governors' first two series of the game, when they scored their only offensive TDs.

Farrington's other score came after rain made for a slippery football that likely led to an errant snap in punt formation for the Knights. Punter Derek Hillegass was pressured into throwing a weak pass that Seth Ilae intercepted and returned 30 yards for a TD with 5:27 left in the second quarter that gave the Govs a 19-0 lead at the half.

Castle did better defensively in the second half. Tuimasese said the Knights blitzed more to seal gaps he and running back Scotland Smith (11 carries for 61 yards) took advantage of to combine for 163 yards rushing in the first half alone.

"I think we have to get our rhythm going in the second half, offensively," Farrington coach Randall Okimoto said. "You look at Roosevelt's game (last week) and this game, they kind of mirrored each other. We're not (where we want to be) yet. We gotta work on that."

In last week's 20-17 win against Roosevelt, the Governors did all their scoring in the first half and the defense fended off the Rough Riders in the second half.

But Castle never mounted a threat until the end. Linebacker Justin Vele and Mo Tauaefa, as well as linemen V.J. Fehoko and Keith Chargualaf-Tuilaepa either had one or combined with the other for the eight quarterback Jaymason Lee that totaled minus-63 yards.

"Basically, our goal was to get in, stop the pass," Fehoko said. "Castle's coming in 3-0. They beat good teams like 'Iolani, so we know we had to stop the pass. Our D-line brought it tonight."

Before his 69-yard TD pass to Lowen Rogers against Farrington's prevent defense with 19 seconds left, Lee had passed for just 55 yards.

Still, the Governors know they need to play consistently over both halves offensively. While they could rely on the run in the first half, they could not keep Castle honest with the pass. Jared Hakuole was 2 of 6 in the second half and was intercepted by linebacker Jaysen Ferreira.

"First half, we did all right," Tuimaseve said. "The linemen executed their blocking. Second half, we needed a lot of work out there. We have to build from our second-half mistakes and move on."

The win keeps the Governors on pace with No. 2 Kahuku (4-0, 2-0).
