UH-Hilo volleyball surges to 8-0

Josimara Pinheiro had 19 kills and 16 digs as Hawai'i-Hilo held off host Alaska-Fairbanks, 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 20-25, 15-9, last night at the Nanook Classic.
Morgan Bonney and Fabiane Seben each added 13 kills, and Kawena Cubi-Otineru 11 for the Vulcans (8-0).
Earlier in the day, Seben had 20 kills and Pinheiro added 19 kills and 19 digs as Hilo outlasted Rockhurst (Kansas City, Mo.), 25-14, 25-17, 28-30, 25-27, 15-9.
Cubi-Otineru added 15 kills and Bonney 10 for the Vulcans.

Kelly Balanay had 16 kills and five blocks, and Tricia Yoshimura posted a season-high 26 digs as the Sea Warriors beat Cal State East Bay, 25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 24-26, 15-11.
In a late match, Humboldt State rallied past HPU, 23-25, 13-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-10. Mariana Souza had 20 kills and Balanay 12 for the Sea Warriors (3-4).
Makenzie Snyder had 17 kills as Chico State beat the Silverswords, 25-12, 25-17, 25-7. Courtney Lorusso had seven kills and Tanya Alvino 18 assists for Chaminade.
In the late match, Beth Perkins had 11 kills and seven digs as San Francisco State beat the Silverswords, 25-23, 25-11, 14-25, 25-11. Lorusso had 13 kills and Whitney Viveiros added nine kills and 12 digs for Chaminade.

TEAM PRIMO IS PRIMO IN QUEEN LILI'UOKALANI RACES
Team Primo #2 won the Iron Open Male Division on the first day of the Queen Lili'uokalani Long Distance Canoe Races yesterday on the Big Island.
Team Primo #2 finished in 1 hour, 52 minutes, 34 seconds. Livestrong was second in 1:55:14 and Team Primo #1 third in 1:57:10.
Hui Lanakila #7 won the Iron Open Male Koa Division in 2:03:16.
Hui Lanakila #2 captured the Iron Open Female Division in 2:12:16, followed by Waikiki Beach Boys #1 in 2:13:20 and Waikiki Beach Boys #2 in 2:14:04.
Hui Lanakila #3 won the Iron Open Koa Female Division in 2:20:15.
