Danielson honored by WAC; UH No. 4

University of Hawai'i sophomore outside hitter Kanani Danielson was named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week yesterday, a day after leading the Rainbow Wahine to the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational title.
Danielson, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, had 54 kills, 19 digs and 11 blocks in wins over Santa Clara, Western Michigan and UCLA.
Also yesterday, Hawai'i (3-0) moved from No. 7 (preseason) to No. 4 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association's first regular season poll.
Penn State is No. 1, followed by Texas and Washington. Michigan, which moved from No. 16 to No. 7, provided the weekend's biggest upset, a sweep of host Nebraska, which dropped from No. 3 to No. 6.
Hawai'i returns to action Thursday against No. 19 Saint Louis (2-1) in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic. Also in the tournament are Texas and No. 10 California (2-1).
