United Airlines to end contract with Mesa Air Group early
Mesa Air Group Inc. said today United Airlines has exercised its early termination rights for Mesa's operation of 10 United Express Dash-8 turboprop aircraft.
Mesa, the parent of go! airlines, said it plans to work with United Airlines on an orderly transition plan. Mesa’s exit from service is expected no later than April 30, 2010, the airline said in a news release.
"We face a challenging period during the next few quarters and will strive to mitigate the impact of the termination of aircraft under our codeshare agreement with United Airlines,” Mesa Chairman and Chief Jonathan Ornstein said in a news release.
The lease terms covering four of the aircraft expire on April 30, while the remaining six aircraft have lease terms beyond that date, Ornstein said.
“ We are exploring a number of opportunities for the remaining six aircraft including other codeshare opportunities, our independent operations or subleasing the aircraft to other operators," he said.
