Hilo's Kim, Líhu'e's Oride are Rolex Junior All-Americans

Golfers Kimberly Kim, of Hilo, and Kelli Oride, from Líhu'e, were named Rolex Junior All-Americans yesterday by the American Junior Golf Association.
It is Kim's sixth selection, which ties her for second-most all-time . The University of Denver freshman has earned first-team honors three straight years now. She finished in the top three at four of five national junior events this year, winning the Rolex Girls Junior Championship.
Oride, 16, is an honorable mention All-American after making the ClubCorp Mission Hills Desert Junior her second AJGA victory. She had two other top-10 finishes and also earned HP Scholastic Junior All-America honors this year. She is No. 43 in the Polo Golf Rankings.
Rolex Junior All-America Teams are determined exclusively through the Polo Golf Rankings as of Oct. 27. The teams are composed of 96 junior golfers, ages 13-18, from 20 states and seven foreign countries. They will be honored at the Rolex Junior All-America Awards Banquet, Nov. 22 at PGA National Resort Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
FINAU OPENS WITH 71
Turtle Bay's Tony Finau birdied the final two holes yesterday to shoot a 1-under-par 71 in the opening round of the PGA Tour Qualifying First Stage at Lantana Golf Club in Texas.
Finau is 26th after the first of four rounds, best of the four golfers with Hawai'i ties playing this week. The 20-year-old is from Lehi, Utah, and represents Turtle Bay with younger brother Gipper.
At Grasslands Golf & Country Club in Lakeland, Fla., Kamehameha graduate Keoke Cotner shot 72 and is tied for 27th. Hilo's Jarett Hamamoto, a two-time state high school champion who played for University of Hawai'i, is a shot back and tied for 32nd.
Maui's Samuel Cyr fired a 75 at Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee, Calif. He is 41st going into today's second round.
The top 22 and ties at each of the First Stage sites advance to next month's Second Stage.
