A man in his 50s was pulled from Pokai Bay yesterday by city lifeguards but later died at a nearby hospital, the victim of an apparent drowning

The man was brought to shore by lifeguards at 3:09 p.m.

Paramedics took over his treatment and transported him to a nearby hospital, said Bryan Cheplic, city Emergency Services Department spokesman.

The man was pronounced dead a short time after being brought to the hospital, Cheplic said.
