As part of its 100-Plus Years of Service celebration, Leahi Hospital this morning recognized three nursing home patients over the age of 100.
The centenarians are:
— Ralph Aloiau, who turned 100 on Thursday.
— Taka Sato, 101.
— Shizuyo Moriyama, 103.
“This is a chance for us to celebrate a real and sometimes overlooked milestone,” Leahi chief executive Vincent Lee said.
“This birthday celebration provides us with an opportunity to recognize these unique and outstanding invididuals.”
Lee noted how all three had lived independentally until recently.
Aloiau, who was born in Kapaa, Kauai, became a resident of the hospital in 2005 after suffering several strokes and falls.
Sato, who was born in Hokkaido, Japan, was admitted to Leahi in 2004 when she was in her 90s.
Moriyama, who was born in Haleiwa, became a resident in 2008 after a series of falls.
